How is Hip Replacement performed at Family Hospital?
Our surgeons will go over all the questions you may have in regards to your surgery. Your surgery will take
approximately 2-4 hours to be completed and could be performed under general anesthesia or spinal blockage.
The incisions are standard and it is important that the day after your surgery you start walking and testing your
new hip. You will need to have assistance, which is why physical therapy is absolutely necessary after your surgery.
Step 1- In order to get approved for Hip Replacement surgery at Hospital de la Familia, we need to see an
X-ray of your hip as well as have you fill out your Medical Intake Form. Your case Manager will assist you
through this process.
Step 2- We will request that you have a dental checkup to check for any infections and/or cavities.
This is important to avoid post-op infections.
Step 3- We will perform Pre-Op testing such as: CBC test, EKG test, and Thorax X-ray prior to your surgery as
well as a 1 hour consultation with one of our featured surgeons.
NOTE: We recommend you get pre approved for surgery prior to your arrival by your local doctor.
This will give us some assurance that your are healthy enough to have the surgery. However, if you prefer to
perform all pre op tests upon arrival to the hospital, not a problem! We perform your pre-op tests in house
anyway as it is part of our safety standards for all medical travelers. Your pre-op tests are included in your
quote with the exclusion of a few. Your case manager can assist you.
