umbilical hernia
What is umbilical hernia?

Umbilical hernia is a protuberance or bulge in the abdominal cavity. A weak spot on the abdominal tissue causes the fat or an intestine to bulge out. This is normal on babies, but after the 3 years old it should disappear. An umbilical hernia on adults should be removed with a surgery. Some of the causes of umbilical hernias on adults are obesity, weight lifting, multiple pregnancies and even coughing for multiple days. The hernia is painful and may increase in size by time. Some of the symptoms are the protuberance or bulge near the bellybutton area, sudden nausea, vomiting and pain also.

How do we perform Umbilical Hernia Surgery at Family Hospital?

The surgeon will make a small incision very near the bulge area. The hernia fat will be removing or if it is your intestines will be place back in their proper place by your surgeon. The abdominal muscle cavity will be stitched, and sometimes surgeon strengths the weak abdominal tissue using mesh. It is a very small operation only takes between 25-30 minutes.
